Description

Resting on a glacial gravel bar left 15,000 years ago, this 10.8-acre preserve maintains an authentic pre-settlement tallgrass landscape in Hodgkins. Walking paths guide visitors through the rare mesic prairie, winding past blazing stars, coneflowers, and big bluestem among more than 250 native plant species. A restored historic BNSF caboose serves as the on-site visitor center.
