Santa Barbara's Funk Zone to Downtown, Taco by Taco

A guided taco walk from the Funk Zone into downtown Santa Barbara: five stops, and three drinks for guests 21 and up.

Plan a taco walk through the Funk Zone.

This walk starts on Motor Way in the Funk Zone, in front of Santa Barbara Roasting Company, and spends about two and a half hours working its way into downtown. The listing puts the distance at a mile and a half and the stops at five taquerias, with one taco at each.

A guide fills the gaps between them. The operator's own page says the stories run from the mission era to the fishermen and families who built the town. It also says every stop is seated, and with five stops on the way, no stretch of walking runs long.

Two departures run every day: lunch at 12:00 PM and sunset at 4:00 PM, each about two and a half hours. This listing will not take a booking with fewer than two adult tickets. A solo traveler cannot check out on it alone.

Guests from 6 to 20 book a youth ticket and get non-alcoholic drinks in place of the three pours. Children aged three to five have no ticket on this listing.

Five Tacos, Three Drinks, and What to Expect

The listing names the five tacos as carne asada, shrimp, fajita chicken, mushroom and queso birria. Three of the stops add a drink for guests 21 and over: a margarita, a glass of wine and a beer.

Vegetarian tacos are offered at each stop with 24 hours' notice, according to the operator, and the mushroom taco is already on the list. Water comes on request, and the operator encourages you to bring a bottle. On portions, its FAQ says most guests are pleasantly full by the end.

The Lineup Shifts, the Walk Stays Downtown

The listing never names the five taquerias, and travelers writing between 2024 and 2026 name different lineups. Treat any list of stops you find online as a snapshot. The operator has said that in the week between Christmas and New Year's, when many of its favorite small, independently owned taco spots are closed, it adjusts the route.

The shape of the walk holds. It leaves the Funk Zone for what the operator calls the oldest blocks of downtown, and its page describes Spanish adobe courtyards and tucked-away alleys between bites, with the story of how downtown came to be told at the first taqueria. The tour ends at the fifth stop. The guide heads off there, and the listing says you can stay on.

Drinking Age, Young Children, and Wheelchairs

Anyone 21 or over who looks younger should bring a government-issued ID for the drinks, the operator says. By the operator's rules, children under two come free when they skip the tastings; ages three to five cannot be booked on this listing.

The listing marks the tour as wheelchair accessible, while the operator's FAQ calls the route doable in a wheelchair but not the easiest. It asks to hear ahead of time about a wheelchair or a stroller. For anyone who has trouble walking or standing, its preparation page suggests asking about a private tour.

Lunch or Sunset, Rain or Shine

The operator runs tours rain or shine, all year round, and asks you to bring your gear. The listing does not cancel for weather. As of October 13, 2026, the booking calendar showed both departures open on every date sampled from mid-October into January.

Cancel at least 24 hours before the start for a full refund; inside 24 hours there is none. Tips are not required, and the operator encourages them. It suggests going early in your stay, leaving time to revisit the places you liked, and says guests receive a discount offer for returning to the taco stops.

Meet at 321 Motor Way, in front of Santa Barbara Roasting Company, 15 minutes before your departure. The operator says your guide emails you before the tour and that tours start on time. Wear shoes you can walk a mile and a half in.

The listing adds a gift coupon at the finish. The tour ends at the last taco stop, where the guide leaves and you are free to stay, already knowing which of the five you would go back to.
