Santa Barbara Ghost Walk: Two Hours of Stories From the Presidio to El Paseo
A guided evening tour on Fridays and Saturdays at 6:00 PM that pairs old-town history with roughly 12 to 15 ghost stories, from USD 55 per adult.
Santa Barbara Ghost Tours runs this two-hour evening walk with stops at the Presidio, the Santa Barbara Historical Museum and El Paseo, and the listing promises roughly 12 to 15 traditional and recent ghost stories along the way. The stories come from research by the company's founder, Professor Julie Ann Brown, and the guide also shares photos and videos of what the company calls ghosts caught by guests on the tour. The group meets on the steps of the downtown post office at 6:00 PM on Fridays and Saturdays, and the listing describes it as an outdoor walking tour only.
The same company sells a one-hour walk on other evenings, and that listing names a single stop. This one keeps the Presidio at its center and adds the historical museum and El Paseo.

Only children 1 to 4 go free, despite the “Children FREE” in the product name. On this listing, children 5 to 12 pay USD 10, teens 13 to 17 pay USD 25, and adults 18 to 64 and seniors 65 and up pay USD 55.
Each booking needs at least two adults aged 18 to 64. A solo traveler cannot book, and neither can a pair where one or both are 65 or older. Cancel at least 24 hours before the 6:00 PM start for a full refund. Inside 24 hours there is no refund.

The listing splits the two hours across four stops: about ten minutes at the post office where the group meets, about an hour at El Cuartel and the chapel at El Presidio de Santa Barbara State Historic Park, and roughly twenty minutes each at the Santa Barbara Historical Museum and at El Paseo. It ties the museum stop to Chumash visiting spirits and a lady from the Spanish era, and calls El Paseo a haunted visiting area.
That hour at the Presidio is spent outside the buildings. California State Parks lists the park as open daily from 10:30 AM to 4:30 PM, so the 6:00 PM walk sees El Cuartel and the chapel from the outside. To go inside the adobes, visit the park earlier in the day.
The company says it works primarily in the Presidio District, which it calls the Enchantment Zone. A traveler wrote in 2022 that everything is centralized and easy to walk to.
Who Tells the Stories

The stories come from research by Julie Ann Brown, who founded the company. On its own site the company says she began collecting ghost stories as a tour guide on the Queen Mary in Long Beach while studying at USC. It also says she teaches as a tenured professor, chairs a business administration department, and volunteers as a docent or usher at Old Mission Santa Barbara.
She does not lead every walk. Travelers who reviewed this listing between 2024 and 2026 name two guides: Julie herself and a guide named Allison. Either one may lead your walk.
The Whole Walk Happens Outdoors
Expect history told through stories, out in the open. A traveler in June 2026 wrote that the group saw no ghosts but learned a lot about the history of the Presidio. In 2022 another traveler felt too much of the evening was spent standing in haunted parking lots, and wished for more time in front of, or inside, the buildings themselves. In 2025 a third wrote that the guide kept the group moving, with plenty of places to sit along the way.
Wear walking shoes; all two hours are spent outside in the evening. A traveler in September 2025 put it plainly: “It takes two hours. Need good walking shoes.”
Children, Health Notes and Halloween Night
Children are welcome on this listing, and those 1 to 4 go free. A traveler wrote in 2023 that their kids called it the best thing ever in Santa Barbara. Strollers can come along. The listing marks the walk as not wheelchair accessible, does not recommend it for travelers with back problems, heart problems or other serious medical conditions, and allows service animals. Each departure takes at most 15 travelers.
As of October 23, 2026, the booking calendar shows no open departure on Halloween, Saturday, October 31, or on November 21, 27 and 28. The other Friday and Saturday evenings were open on the same check.
📍 Meet on the front stairs of the main post office at 836 Anacapa Street, downtown. The walk ends back at the same address. Walks start at 6:00 PM on Fridays and Saturdays only. After booking, the listing asks you to call the operator at 805-905-9019 to confirm. If a walk is canceled for poor weather, the listing offers a different date or a full refund.
By the end you will have covered the Presidio, the historical museum and El Paseo, and heard a dozen or more stories about the people the company calls Santa Barbara's friendly ghosts.
