Description

Founded in 1997 by filmmaker and Howard University professor Haile Gerima and his wife Shirikiana Aina, this Georgia Avenue space operates as a combined bookstore, video shop, and café. The inventory focuses tightly on Black history, pan-Africanism, and social justice, stocked with cultural items alongside literature and film. Daily life here doubles as neighborhood programming, drawing visitors for author talks, book clubs, and film screenings alongside coffee and food in a warm, welcoming setting.
