Description
Valentin Palillero and Eva Mendez opened the shop in 2005, initially sticking to traditional pepperoni and green pepper pies familiar to their historically Italian neighborhood. To connect with the community settling in the surrounding blocks, Palillero developed recipes on the same crust using black beans, flecks of onion, and chopped cilantro. Today, those pies are as popular as the originals, bridging a South Philadelphia pocket shaped by Italian and Mexican immigration decades apart.
