San Diego Municipal Gymnasium
gym
Once a 1935 exposition hall, this Balboa Park gym hosts open-play basketball and volleyball on classic indoor courts.
Description

Set in Balboa Park's Palisades area, the city-run recreation center occupies what was built as the Palace of Electricity and Varied Industries. Its architecture reflects a close relationship between ancient Maya and 20th-century ornamentation and its progression. Used by the U.S. Navy during World War II, the building was renovated in 1947 and continues to support wider community sports programs.
