Sam's opened in 1959 on Buchanan Street as a neighborhood general store carrying hardware, fishing equipment, and work clothes, evolving into fashion clothing and shoes in the mid-1960s. The business relocated to its 5th Avenue storefront in 1980, rounding out its selection with suits, cowboy hats, and Nashville-themed apparel.
