Ghost Stories and Navy History on the USS Yorktown After Hours
Bulldog Tours' 90-minute night tour leaves The Ship Shop at Patriots Point at 7:00 PM or 9:00 PM, covers areas closed to day visitors, and stops on the flight deck unless it is booked for an event.
Bulldog Tours runs this 90-minute ghost tour aboard the USS Yorktown, the aircraft carrier moored at Patriots Point in Mt. Pleasant, across the harbor from downtown Charleston. The museum closes to day visitors at 5:00 PM, and tour groups board at 7:00 PM or 9:00 PM. The listing promises access to parts of the ship that are closed to the public, including the flight deck after dark.

📍 Tickets are priced per person, with a child rate for ages 4 to 12 and no charge for ages 3 and under. Every booking needs an adult, and cancelling at least 24 hours ahead brings a full refund.

The guide works from the ship's own past. The listing calls the Yorktown the Fighting Lady, commissioned in 1943 and once manned by more than 3,000 people, and names what a night may cover: maritime superstitions, an unusual ship christening, Captain Jocko Clark, Smokey Stover and a sailor who disappeared.
Several reviews from 2026 say the night leans more on history than on scares, and a few travelers wanted more ghost material. Parents of teenagers report the mix worked for their kids, who took to the spooky stories while the adults followed the history.
The Flight Deck Is What Travelers Remember

The flight deck is the part of the night reviewers bring up most, for the aircraft parked up top and the view of Charleston and the Ravenel Bridge after dark. "Amazing views from the flight deck at night," one traveler wrote in September 2026.
The flight deck is not guaranteed, because the museum also rents it out for private events. One March 2026 group missed it when a party was already underway there. Replying to another review, Bulldog Tours says overnight campers are often aboard, especially on weekends, and that its groups still go into areas campers cannot enter, including the flight deck.
Ladders, Heat and Closed-Toe Shoes
The operator states plainly that the tour is not handicap accessible. The route uses narrow stairways and ladders that the listing calls hard to manage for anyone who has trouble walking. The listing asks for at least a moderate level of fitness and advises against the tour for travelers with spinal injuries, poor cardiovascular health or a pregnancy.
The ship is not climate controlled, hot in summer and cold in winter. One August 2026 reviewer wrote that the group "underestimated the ladder climbing involved and sweltering August heat." The ship store is closed during the tour. Bring bottled water and wear closed-toe shoes. Service animals are allowed, and the museum does not admit pets.
Parking, the Front Gate and Getting There Early
Patriots Point's visitor lot sits off Club House Road, reached through the museum's new entrance on Patriots Point Road. Parking is paid separately: the museum currently lists USD 5.50 an hour with a daily cap of USD 25, before card fees, and the system warns you before time runs out and lets you add more. One traveler suggests paying for at least two hours.
At night only the front entrance is open, and the marina side gate is locked. A 2025 reviewer walking over from the Charleston Harbor Resort found that the harbor path ended at that closed gate. Guests arriving by water taxi should allow an extra 20 minutes to walk around to the front.
📍 Check in at the picnic tables to the left of The Ship Shop, 40 Patriots Point Rd, 15 minutes before the start, because the guide walks the group to the ship from there; a 2025 reviewer who arrived four minutes late found the group already gone. Bulldog Tours needs at least four guests for a departure to run, so a small booking can be moved: two travelers describe calls a few hours before start time offering a different slot.
Departures run at 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM most nights; the calendar is closed on a few dates, including Thanksgiving and December 24 and 25. Tours run rain or shine.
