As the first Ukrainian restaurant in the DMV area, Ruta expanded from its original Southeast DC location to Bethesda in 2024. The kitchen approaches food as a cultural ambassador, balancing heritage dishes like holubtsi with modern fusion plates designed to reflect the resilience and evolution of Ukrainian society. Recognition extends beyond the dining room to the bar, where the house Black Currant Nalyvka earned first place for Best Beverage at the 2025 DC Embassy Chef Challenge.
