Grassy slopes above Nara offer sweeping views across the ancient city, roaming wild deer, and a quiet path to the top.
Description

Three overlapping grassy crests give this 342-meter mountain its alternate name, Mount Mikasa, resembling a triple-layered hat silhouette framed by the World Heritage grounds of Todai-ji, Kasuga Taisha, and the Kasuga Primeval Forest.
A gentle 25-minute hike follows forest paths up to the peak, revealing layers of distant mountains on clear days and earning the summit a spot among Japan's New Three Major Night Views. Each January, the quiet hillside transforms during the traditional Yamayaki festival, when the entire mountain is set ablaze.
