Dugan's Two-Zone Grounds
Gerard P. Dugan Playground divides its play equipment between toddlers and older children, with swings for both groups. The dedicated seating area offers a pause between rounds of play. Behind the structures, a track and field area adds room for running and sports. The park includes a public restroom and sprinkler features. It opens daily from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Plan for street parking only and limited shade on sunny days.
Six Stories, One Stage
Designed by Ralph Alswang, the Gershwin Theatre handles large-scale musicals on a stage built for elaborate sets. Its auditorium pairs immersive acoustics with clear sightlines from almost every angle. An escalator promenade leads through an Art Nouveau lobby, where the Theatre Hall of Fame adds a cultural stop before the curtain. Shows require paid admission. Hours begin at 10:00 AM Monday through Saturday and 11:00 AM Sunday.
Gil Hodges Garden
At 534 Carroll Street, this Brooklyn site serves families, local businesses, and community groups with raised vegetable beds and an outdoor classroom. Gravel paths pass a composting station, a birch reading grove, and a fragrance walk. In 2013, this became the New York Restoration Project's first site to implement a stormwater system that keeps untreated runoff from draining into the Gowanus Canal. It offers at least 20 open hours each week, with times posted on the bulletin board.
