A former weapons site turned sprawling prairie refuge near Denver, where bison roam against a backdrop of the Rockies.
Description

Spanning 15,000 acres, the former World War II and Cold War chemical weapons manufacturing site has been remediated into one of the country's largest urban wildlife refuges. The protected grasslands shelter endangered black-footed ferrets alongside prairie dogs, white-tailed deer, and diverse bird species. The grounds can be explored via an 11-mile wildlife drive or along 20 miles of quiet trails, offering close-up animal sightings just outside the Denver metro area.
