Rockport's Little Bay After Dark, Seen Through a Lit-Up Kayak

A guided one-mile loop from downtown Rockport into the stretch of bay locals call the ski basin, with LED lights shining down through a see-through hull.

Paddle a lit-up kayak on Rockport's Little Bay.

GlowRow launches from the southwest end of Little Bay, the water most Rockport locals know as the ski basin. The route starts in the shallows and heads north along Highway 35 toward the man-made oyster reefs that dot the bay.

Every kayak has a clear hull and underwater LEDs with seven colors and settings. The light points down into the water you are paddling over. One guest wrote in August 2026: "Little Bay water was clean and clear and calm. Saw lots jumping fish and a jelly."

The listing runs two launches each Saturday, at 8:00 PM and 10:30 PM, on a calendar that opens in March and closes at the end of November. The price is USD 59.95 per person, not per kayak, and every boat seats two. Booking closes 24 hours before the start, and a shared tour takes up to 10 travelers.

Look for the GlowRow Trailer

Put 210 Seabreeze Drive into your phone's GPS and look for the GlowRow trailer. The operator lists the launch as 1522 E Laurel Street and says parking is free in the marked areas. The tour ends where it starts.

The operator asks guests to arrive 20 minutes early for check-in and a safety briefing. For the 8:00 PM launch, that means 7:40 PM. Late arrivals get less time on the water. Each tour opens with a lesson on how to paddle before the group sets off.

Shallows, Oyster Reefs and Shrimp That Jump Aboard

After the shallows, the group follows Highway 35 north toward the reefs and may cross over some of them on the way back. The listing mentions various small fish, stone crabs around the reefs and the odd shrimp that jumps into a kayak, drawn by the lights. Your guide points out landmarks and wildlife and shares local history as you go.

Timing matters here. The operator's route page says summer boat traffic stirs up silt and lowers water clarity on this route, and it recommends going before Memorial Day.

Who Can Paddle

Every paddler must be 18 or older. The limit is 250 pounds per person and 400 pounds for the two people sharing a kayak, and the operator asks the heavier paddler to sit in back. If your group has an odd number, you may be paired with someone from another group, paddle alone or share with a guide.

  • The listing asks for a high level of physical fitness and does not recommend the tour for travelers with spinal injuries or poor cardiovascular health.
  • The operator's FAQ says you need to know how to swim.
  • Bug spray is not allowed. The operator's FAQ also bans sunscreen and tanning lotion, which damage the kayak's surface.

Dress to Get Wet

The operator's FAQ is blunt: you will get wet. Wear a swimsuit or activewear in summer, add a light jacket in spring or fall, and leave a towel and a change of clothes in the car.

  • Shoes are not allowed in the kayaks, to keep the hulls from getting scratched. Water shoes can come on board, and sandals or flip-flops help for the walk to the water.
  • Phones and action cameras are welcome. The operator suggests Night mode and is not responsible for anything lost overboard.
  • Leave valuables in your car. Staff will hold your keys while you paddle.
  • The tour can be cancelled for bad weather or too few travelers. The operator does not paddle in thunderstorms or high wind, and it watches for strong afternoon storms from July through October.
  • Cancel at least 24 hours before the start for a full refund.

📍 Both launches leave from the same spot at the bay end of E Laurel Street, near Seabreeze Drive. The operator puts it in the heart of Rockport's nightlife and suggests staying the night. Book the 10:30 PM launch and the paddle becomes the last thing you do on a Saturday in Rockport.
