Riverbend Park
4.7 (185)park
A Cambridge park where weekend road closures turn the riverside drive into an open, car-free promenade.
Description

The tradition dates back over 40 years to Isabella Halsted's vision of closing Memorial Drive to traffic, opening a peaceful place to take in the historic river. Today, the seasonal car-free routine runs on weekends from the last Sunday of April to mid-November, spanning the waterfront from Hawthorn Street to Mt. Auburn Hospital. Along the route, volunteers with the People for Riverbend Park Trust help tend the planted shrubs, flowers, and the Sekler playlot.
