From Riverbank to River Run: Leafy Photo Stops Along Riverside
Follow a north-to-south riverside sequence that opens with water views, slows through a shaded memorial grove, and ends among broad playground trees for bright, low-pressure fall photography.
Three canopy compositions
Start above the river
Begin at Denny Farrell Riverbank State Park while the Hudson is still bright. The elevated walk opens onto sports courts, water, and a long strip of canopy. Move toward the river-facing edge for layered skyline frames, then turn inland for leaves around the entrance gardens. Use the west-facing overlook for late-afternoon light before heading south.
Pause at the memorial grove
Joan of Arc Park trades scale for intimacy. Its tree-lined paths fold around a small memorial, lawns, and spring-fed shade, giving you tighter frames than the waterfront. Walk the inner bend slowly and let trunks bracket the statue. Shoot from the lower path for a clean arch of branches, then continue south on Riverside Drive.
Finish with open play
Close at River Run Playground, where mature trees soften the playground's bright geometry. The route ends with a lived-in neighborhood scene: benches, climbing structures, and green corridors in one frame. Visit when families are out for natural motion, or wait for a quieter reset. Stand beyond the benches to layer leaves over the play towers.
