Ridgewood Italian Trattoria With Wild Boar Ragu and Focaccia
Dine on wild boar ragù and seafood spaghetti at a Ridgewood Italian trattoria shaped by Bologna and Florence.
🍝 Bologna and Florence Comfort
Il Gigante is a cozy Ridgewood Italian trattoria at 880 Woodward Avenue, run by owners Lorenzo, Ed and Jacopo. The kitchen takes its cues from Bologna and Florence and keeps the cooking unfussy, with wild boar ragù and house focaccia setting the tone.
Start with the tricolore salad, a plate large enough to share among three. From there the pastas carry the meal, with rich seafood spaghetti and meaty lasagna topped with parmigiano leading the table and cacio e pepe as another option. Order the Negroni early, the cocktail guests single out again and again.
The room is chic and intimate, a fit for date night, and the staff treats first-timers like regulars. Dinner starts at 5 PM Monday through Friday, running to 11 PM Monday through Thursday and to midnight on Friday. Saturday goes from noon to midnight and Sunday from noon to 11 PM, which opens the door to a long weekend lunch of central Italian comfort food.
