From October to Late May, the Highway Opens at 9:00 AM

The City of Colorado Springs runs the Pikes Peak Highway, and the highway's hours shape this tour. From October 1 to May 27 the uphill gate opens at 9:00 AM, the last car goes up at 3:00 PM, and the summit closes at 4:00 PM. In the operator's words, the highway opens beyond regular hours just a handful of times a year, for its separate sunrise and sunset events. In those months, book a start from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The gate is in Cascade, about 10 minutes from the meeting lot by the operator's count, so a 3:00 PM start leaves the lot just as the last car goes up. The 7:00 AM and 4:00 PM starts the operator also lists fall outside those gate hours. The highway closes on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

Some Days the Road Stops Short of the Summit

The park's own wording is that summit access is weather permitting and cannot be guaranteed. Its homepage and phone line post how far up the highway is open, updated as conditions change through the day. On the afternoon of October 14, 2026, that point dropped from Cove Creek at mile 13.5 of 19 to the Halfway Picnic Grounds at mile 10. The operator lists three responses to severe weather: delay, modify or cancel. If the operator cancels for unsafe conditions, you get a full refund or a free reschedule. The booking page also allows a cancellation for bad weather. Two reviews of this tour, posted in April and November 2024, describe the mountain road closed and the guide taking the group to Garden of the Gods instead. The operator's weather policy does not name a substitute stop.

Four Guests to a Jeep, and Tall Travelers Notice

Each Wrangler carries up to four guests. Parties of five or more ride in more than one Jeep, travel together and regroup at every stop, in the operator's description. A review posted in August 2025 shows the other side: a party of five, one of them 6 feet 5 inches tall, could not fit comfortably and did not go. Put party size and anyone's height in the booking's special requirements box.

Altitude, Car Seats and a Colder Summit

The summit stands at 14,115 feet, and the operator expects it to run 20 to 30 degrees Fahrenheit colder than town. Bring a layer in any month. Time at the top is not published. A review posted in July 2024 counted 30 minutes at the summit and found it rushed, while one posted in May 2026 says the group took its time. The park advises against the ascent for anyone with severe heart or lung problems and for infants under six months, and this listing takes no one under two. Children ride in a car seat or booster you bring and install yourself, and the operator says the tour will not leave if a required seat is missing or installed wrong. The road winds steeply. Sickness bags ride along, and a 250-dollar cleaning fee applies if anyone is sick inside the Jeep. The tour is seated, with optional short walks at stops, and the summit visitor center has a fully accessible walkway.

📍 Meet at the large free public parking lot at 55 El Paso Blvd in Manitou Springs, where the guide checks you in. The private option adds pickup, which the listing describes as free within 3 miles of Manitou Springs or at selected locations. Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for a full refund on this booking. The operator's own site lists longer windows for bookings made with it directly. If you're running late, call or text the operator. A long delay can shorten the tour or cancel it without a refund. Pets stay home, and certified service animals are welcome.
