Ride Nashville's Ghost Bus From Union Station to the Cemetery

A ghost-story ride through Nashville where the bus carries you between haunted stops and the guide tells each tale on the sidewalk.

The bus does the driving and the guide does the talking. At each stop the group climbs down to the sidewalk, hears that stop's story, and climbs back on. Travelers keep describing the night as Nashville history told through ghost stories and old crimes, and the storytelling is what the ticket buys.

No ghost-hunting gear comes with the standard seat. An EMF reader is something the guide will rent or sell you.

The listing sells three versions: the standard bus seat, a bus seat that adds a rental investigation kit with an EMF reader, and a private golf-cart ghost hunt with a paranormal investigator. Each is priced per person.

Where the Bus Stops, and for How Long

The route starts at the Union Station Hotel, which opened in 1900 as Nashville's train terminal. Then comes a stretch of Second Avenue with a bombing at the center of its story, and Skull's Rainbow Room, for the tale of David "Skull" Schulman, long known as the Mayor of Printers Alley. After that it is Printers Alley itself, the Tennessee State Capitol, whose architect, William Strickland, the listing says chose to be buried inside it, and the Nashville City Cemetery, established in 1822.

Printers Alley gets 30 minutes, the longest stop, while the Capitol and the cemetery get five minutes each. The stops add up to about 75 of the 120 minutes the listing gives. Expect to stand on the sidewalk while each story is told, and the operator's own FAQ says its tours involve a fair amount of walking. Several travelers wished they could have walked into the cemetery. It is a view from outside the grounds.

Which Bus You Get, and What You Can Hear

The listing says the ghost bus sells out fast. When it does, the operator moves everyone onto a larger bus and the whole group rides together on it, which means the decorated bus in the photos is not guaranteed. One traveler who rode the second bus described it as plain white.

Sound is the other thing to know. Several travelers found the stories hard to follow once the bus was moving, between rattling windows and speed bumps. The air conditioning drew complaints on hot summer nights, and the heat failed on at least one cold one. Dress for the weather outside.

Check In Inside the Bar Before You Board

The meeting point is The Green Light Bar, 833 Hawkins Street. Go inside and look for the sign that reads Haunted Ghost Tour. Do not climb onto the bus until the guide has checked you in inside the bar.

Travelers describe the check-in as crowded and the boarding call as easy to miss. The operator asks guests to arrive about 15 minutes early to check in. Drinks are not part of the ticket, and outside food and drink are not allowed aboard. One traveler noted there is no restroom stop during the two hours.

Ages, Tips, Weather and Refunds

The listing takes all ages, with an adult for anyone under 18, while the operator's own booking page for this bus lists ages 13 and up. Flag a younger child in the special requirements box before you go. The tour is rated PG-13 for murder, true crime and historic tragedies, and parents decide whether it suits their child. Guides work for tips, which sit on top of the ticket price.

The tour runs rain or shine and is rescheduled when severe weather warnings are issued. Bring an umbrella or a poncho. Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for a full refund.

The listing ticks "Suitable for all physical fitness levels" and allows service animals. The operator's own FAQ says its tours are not wheelchair accessible, because of the historic buildings and bars they visit. Every stop means stepping down to the sidewalk and standing. Raise any mobility need in the special requirements box at checkout.
