Description

Occupying two full city blocks in Kansas City's Central Business District, this 1.2-million-square-foot complex is a quintessential example of 1965 Modernist architecture. Designed by Voskamp and Slezak, the site is organized as a tower-and-low-rise pairing centered on an open plaza. Beyond its scale, the complex serves as a public gallery of mid-century artistic integration, marked by Costantino Nivola’s exterior bas-relief and a monumental lobby mural by Frederick Conway. While the facility retains a distinct mid-century atmosphere, a 2000s glass entry pavilion now provides a contemporary contrast to the historic structure.
