Rice Cinema
4.5 (30)cinema
A university cinematheque pairing rare 35mm prints and experimental world cinema with visiting filmmakers.
Description

Founded by Jean and Dominique de Menil alongside figures like Roberto Rossellini, Rice Cinema was conceived around film as conversation and community rather than pure consumption. Operating within Rice’s Department of Art, the venue connects university and city audiences through screenings framed by open dialogue.
The program's projection capabilities span from early silent cinema to contemporary digital formats, including 16mm prints. Over half a century, that wide aperture has brought directors such as Andy Warhol, Jean-Luc Godard, and Shirin Neshat to present their work in person.
