Description

Dedicated to Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founding shogun of the Edo period, this complex anchors the Shrines and Temples of Nikko with 55 historic structures, including eight National Treasures and 34 Important Cultural Properties.

Traditional rites also animate the grounds during major festivals in May and October, from Ogasawara-school horseback archery to a ceremonial procession featuring over 1,200 participants in samurai attire.
