Rhode Island's Last Hanging, Retold on a Providence Night Walk
A 90-minute night walk through Providence that tells the city's murders, trials and scandals as ghost stories.
This is a ghost tour that starts from the case file. The listing promises chilling tales of murder, scandal and the restless spirits left behind, and says each story is substantiated by historical records. The operator's own page names its sources as archival records, newspaper accounts and eyewitness testimony.
Expect true-crime history told after dark, with a ghost story attached to each case.

The booking below is a single ticket type for the 7:00 PM walk, priced per person, and an adult has to make the booking. A walk needs at least four guests; when fewer have booked, the operator contacts you that morning to offer a full refund or another date. Gratuities are not included.
Real Ghosts of Providence: True Crime Ghost Tour90-minute walking tour · 7:00 PM from the Graduate lobby · Expert guide includedwww.viator.comBoth Versions of the Route Include City Hall and the Old State House

The listing names four stops of about ten minutes each. At the Old State House, the listing says, a trial sent an innocent man to hang. City Hall is where a Ghost Hunters visit turned up what the listing calls interesting results. The Arcade carries the story of a pair of star-crossed lovers, and the Providence River brings Prohibition history and a possible victim of the original "cement shoes."
The operator's own page lists a slightly different set. It adds the former Biltmore Hotel, now the Graduate, where you meet, and the hidden entrance of the East Side Rail Tunnel. The operator puts the distance at about 0.8 miles. The walk ends roughly half a mile from the hotel lobby. Plan the trip home from that end.
The Cases Behind the Ghosts

At the Old State House, the listing speaks of a trial in which justice was never served. The operator is blunter: an innocent man became the last person executed in Rhode Island. Its page also brings in the Black Duck Incident, where rumrunners met a brutal end, and a satanic cultist meeting that it says allegedly took place at the hidden entrance of the old rail tunnel.
One traveler who joined in June 2026 wrote that the walk offered "Lots of hidden history of the city while balancing the mythology and the facts."
Bring a Light for the Darker Blocks
The operator rates the walk easy. Some streets on the route are not well lit, and it recommends a small flashlight or a phone light. There is a bathroom at the meeting point.
Walks run rain or shine. The operator says only dangerous weather cancels one, and a guide calls that morning if it does. If nobody has contacted you by the morning of your walk, assume it is going ahead. The listing marks the walk as suitable for all fitness levels and for strollers. The operator's own visitor guide calls College Hill, where Benefit Street runs, hilly, and its pages say nothing about strollers or wheelchairs; ask before booking if either matters.
Children Pay Half, and the Sale Is Final
Children 16 and under are priced at half the adult rate on the listing. The operator's general FAQ calls its tour content appropriate for children of all ages, while its After Dark page says some of these tours suit older children and teens and many include death, crime and violence. This one centers on murders and an execution. Judge that against your own child.
On this listing all sales are final, with no refund if you cancel. The listing also mentions an optional cocktail after the walk. The operator's page names The XO Bar, limits it to guests 21 and over, and has the guide walk those who added it over to the bar.
🕯️ Meet in the lobby of the Graduate by Hilton Providence, 11 Dorrance Street, for the 7:00 PM start. Wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather.
As of October 22, 2026, the listing's calendar has a walk every night through Halloween, then Friday and Saturday nights from November 6 to November 28 and three December weekends, with no dates from late December until early March. Start in the lobby of the old Biltmore, then follow the guide out into Providence after dark.
