Reno to Lake Tahoe's Emerald Bay, Home Over Mount Rose
A small-group van ride from Reno to stops on every side of Lake Tahoe, with half an hour at Emerald Bay.
Five hours, and most of them are spent in the van. The route leaves Reno for Cave Rock on Lake Tahoe's east shore, crosses into California at South Lake Tahoe, makes its longest stop at Emerald Bay, heads up the west shore to Tahoe City, follows the north shore through Kings Beach and Crystal Bay, then climbs the Mount Rose Highway back to Reno. The listed stops add up to 110 of the tour's 300 minutes.
Travelers who reviewed it in 2026 describe the route as close to a full loop of the lake. You trade length at any one overlook for a look at the whole lake.

Booking runs through the card below. Pricing is per person and falls as the party grows: one adult booking alone pays the top rate, and the listing's starting price is the two-adult rate. Adult pricing begins at age 6.

Emerald Bay gets 30 minutes, the longest stop on the route, and the listing describes two viewpoints over the bay. Fannette Island sits in the middle of the water, and the listing marks admission at this stop as included.
The state park's trail down to the Vikingsholm house is a mile long and drops 500 feet; the listing describes the viewpoints and no walk down to the shore. Plan on seeing the bay from above.
Cave Rock, Ski Run Marina and Tahoe City

The first stops come quickly: 15 minutes at Cave Rock on the Nevada shore, then 15 at Ski Run Marina in South Lake Tahoe once the route crosses into California. Tahoe City, after Emerald Bay, gets 20 minutes. The listing places the town where the Truckee River leaves the lake, and the operator's own itinerary names the stop as the North Lake Tahoe Visitor Center.
One traveler in May 2026 put the time at each spot at about 10 to 15 minutes. The operator's FAQ says there is free time at key stops for photos and a short look around.
Back to Reno Over the Mount Rose Highway
After Tahoe City the van rolls through Kings Beach without stopping, pauses 15 minutes at Crystal Bay, then climbs the Mount Rose Highway for one last 15-minute overlook. Washoe County's corridor plan puts the highway at 8,911 feet, the highest pass in the Sierra that is maintained year-round, and describes the road as winding with sharp turns.
One traveler in May 2026 suggested motion-sickness tablets for the van: "you do spend quite a bit of time traveling."
When It Runs and Who Can Ride
- There is one departure a day, at 8:00 AM, and the booking calendar showed no departures from December 20 through February 28 when checked on October 10, 2026
- A shared departure takes up to 13 travelers, the figure on both the listing and the operator's tour page; one booking can hold up to 10
- Adult pricing starts at 6, and the operator requires anyone under 18 to ride with a parent or legal guardian
- The listing ticks infant seats and all fitness levels, while the operator's terms say guests who use canes, walkers, wheelchairs or other mobility aids take part at their own discretion and risk; put any need in the special-requirements box when you book
- Only ADA-compliant service animals ride; the operator's terms bar pets and emotional support animals unless approved in writing
🚐 Pickup is from your hotel, casino, vacation rental or home in Reno and the surrounding area; hotel and casino guests are met at the main entrance or valet area. The listing allows pickup up to 30 minutes before the 8:00 AM departure, and your confirmation sets the exact time. The operator's terms say delays caused by a guest can shorten the tour, add charges or end in cancellation without a refund.
Bottled water is included and meals are not. Travelers who reviewed it in 2026 also mention snacks, which the listing does not promise. The operator suggests comfortable shoes, sunglasses and a light jacket, noting that the weather changes quickly. Cancel at least 24 hours before departure for a full refund.
The tour runs into December and starts again in March, and the Emerald Bay stretch of Highway 89 can close for snow; Caltrans kept it shut for snow removal after record storms in January 2023, and the operator's terms let it change routes when roads close.
The last leg comes down off Mount Rose, and the van drops you where it picked you up.
