Description

Built along an 1873 line of the Middlesex Central Railroad, the path originally hauled freight and passengers between Lexington and Concord. Its name traces back to a station beside Concord Prison on Elm Street, though the modern trail stops short of that point by terminating at Lowell Street. Maintained with mostly hardpacked surfaces beneath the trees, the corridor provides direct access to the observation tower at Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge.
