Reach Sag Harbor and Tanger Outlets Without Renting a Car

One coach covers Southampton, Sag Harbor and the Riverhead outlets, then returns you to Midtown the same evening.

Plan a Hamptons day to Sag Harbor and Tanger Outlets.

The East End is the part of New York that trains reach worst. The Long Island Rail Road stops at Southampton and Bridgehampton. Sag Harbor has no station at all, and neither does Coopers Beach or the winery on this route.

Stringing four of those places together in one day normally takes a car.

This tour does the stringing for you. One coach leaves Midtown before dawn, drives the loop, and waits at every stop.

The listed adult fare is USD 179. It covers the coach, a guide who narrates the drive, and a tasting at the winery. Lunch is on you. So is anything you carry out of the outlets.

The tasting is 21 and over. Younger travelers ride along and sit that one out.

Departure is a curb. The coach loads outside the Port Authority building on West 42nd Street, between Eighth and Ninth Avenues, at 6:30 in the morning.

Four Sag Harbor Landmarks, and the One Missing Its Steeple

The listing names four things to look for in Sag Harbor: the Broken Mast Monument, the Old Whalers' Church, the Old Burial Ground, and the John Jermain Library.

They are not all on one corner. The Broken Mast Monument stands in Oakland Cemetery on Jermain Street, roughly ten minutes on foot from the Old Burial Ground beside the church. It was raised in 1856 for the village whaling captains who were killed at sea.

The church and the burial ground do share a hillside. The church front was built to carry a steeple 185 feet high, the first sight of home for returning sailors. It came down in the 1938 hurricane and has never been rebuilt. It fell onto the graves behind the church and broke twelve Beebee family headstones, which were restored in 2025.

The Village Kept Building After the Whales Left

The John Jermain Memorial Library came to the village in 1910, built by Margaret Olivia Slocum Sage in memory of her grandfather. Behind the columned front sits a 35-foot copper dome over a terracotta rotunda, with a stained-glass laylight set into it. A glass addition opened in 2016 and doubled the building. The seam between the two reads clearly from the sidewalk.

A few blocks off, the Bulova Watchcase Factory fills most of a block in red brick. It turned out watch cases for decades and now holds apartments. A factory that size in a village this small tells you what Sag Harbor used to be.

Southampton Gives You Sand, Then a Tasting Room

Coopers Beach is Southampton Village's ocean beach, the only village beach it staffs with lifeguards, and it has showers, restrooms, and a snack bar. Dr. Beach ranked it number one in the United States for 2025. Drive yourself and a non-resident day pass at the booth runs USD 55. The coach stops there and you walk down to the sand.

It is also a short stop. A traveler who logged the day in June 2023 clocked twenty minutes at the beach and wrote that they wanted longer. A reviewer in August 2025 asked for the same thing.

The tasting is at Duck Walk Vineyards, 231 Montauk Highway in Water Mill, just east of Southampton village on the way to Sag Harbor. The Damianos family opened it in 1994 in a chateau-style building set in about thirty acres of vines, fifteen years after they started Pindar on the North Fork. The same 2023 log put the stop at roughly twenty-five minutes.

The Outlets Come Last and Run Longest

Tanger Outlets Riverhead is the final stop, an open-air center on the way back toward the city. The 2023 log put it at about two hours, the longest single stop of the day, and had the coach back in Manhattan by 6:30 in the evening.

Reviewers split on that stretch. Some fill it and come out happy. Others say they would trade it for more time in the Hamptons, and one in August 2026 wrote that the outlet shopping could have been missed.

The listing gives one piece of advice for it. Ask at Shopper Services for the Little Red Book of Big Savings, which collects the coupons for the day.

Two things to settle before you book.

  • The pin above marks Port Authority Bus Terminal. The coach loads at the curb on its West 42nd Street side, between Eighth and Ninth Avenues.
  • Departures run on a fixed weekly schedule through the summer season, and the booking page shows which dates are open. Cancellation terms sit on the same page and change by date. Read them there before you pay.

📍 You are back on West 42nd Street in the evening with whatever you carried out of Riverhead, and enough of the night left to eat in Hell's Kitchen.
