Rainbow Beach
4.8 (12)park
This South Chicago lakefront park pairs dune habitat and open sands with skyline views and a historic community garden.
Description

Originally formed from two separate municipal beaches, the site takes its name from the U.S. Army’s 42nd Rainbow Division from World War I. At the beach's northeast end sits a natural area spanning 9.18 acres of dune habitat. For recreation, the park provides a gymnasium, fitness center, and handball courts, alongside a field house designed by David Woodhouse Architects in 1999 that was built to capture open views of the water and skyline.
