Queens Pizza With Cheese Under the Sauce
Taste a decades old Sicilian pie with cheese baked beneath the sauce in Ozone Park.
🍕 The Upside Down Bake
Opened in 1964 by Paul and Joe's family, Ozone Pizzeria still turns out the upside down Sicilian pie that made it a Queens staple. The build flips the usual order, with cheese baked beneath the sauce and a layer of grated cheese finishing the top, giving each square a savory, browned edge that stands apart from a standard slice.
Diego now owns and operates the shop after more than 35 years working here, a rare run of continuity for a neighborhood pizzeria. Order a loaded round when the crew is hungry, with pepperoni, sausage, and ham piled edge to edge, then keep the upside down square at the center of the table.
A red awning glows over the brick storefront at 96-15 Liberty Ave in Ozone Park. Hours run 11 AM to 10 PM Monday through Saturday, with a noon start on Sunday and the same 10 PM close. Swing by for a late slice after a long day, or pick up a whole Sicilian for the block.
