Pūpūkea-Paumalū Forest Reserve
4.6 (200)park
Quiet ridge trails wind through this North Shore reserve, drawing hikers and mountain bikers for sweeping ocean views.
Description

Established by Governor’s Proclamation in 1910, this 782-acre reserve was created to protect forested watersheds and increase the local water supply. Early reforestation efforts introduced non-native timber plantations that still make up most of the canopy today, though pockets of native forest and native shrublands remain in the southeast portion. Routes through the reserve include the 2.5-mile Kaunala Trail.
