Description

San Francisco built the temple to commemorate the engineering that brought Hetch Hetchy water more than 160 miles from the Sierra Nevada Mountains to the Bay Area. Designed by William Merchant, the structure pairs an inscribed stone frieze and stone carvings by Albert Bernasconi with Corinthian capitals reflecting ancient Greek and Roman architecture.
