Pulemoku Islet Seabird Sanctuary
4.4 (46)park
Wade across a reef at low tide to reach this offshore sanctuary of quiet pocket beaches and nesting seabirds.
Description
Also known locally as Goat Island or Mokuauia, this windward Oahu preserve is reached via a rough quarter-mile reef crossing through water that can reach three feet deep with breaking waves.
On the islet itself, movement is clearly bounded. Because the site protects fragile habitat, the interior is strictly reserved for nesting wildlife, keeping visitors along the tide pools and designated coastal strips, where Hawaiian monk seals are occasionally spotted.
