Puʻu ʻO Kona Trail
4.9 (10)attraction
A rugged climb up the quiet side of Kuliʻouʻou Valley, trading maintained paths for rope scrambles and native forest.
Description

Set in the back of Kuliʻouʻou Valley, this 3.6-mile day hike can be combined with the Kuliʻouʻou Ridge Trail to create a longer loop. The ascent shifts from lower stands of strawberry guava and ironwood into native uluhe and lama forests as it nears the Koʻolau Summit Trail. Because the route is not managed or maintained by any agency, it features crumbly, loose sections requiring ropes.
