Privateer Chases the Panama City Beach Sunset, Whatever the Season

A sunset sail through St. Andrews Bay on Paradise Adventures' Privateer, with dolphins to watch for on the way toward the Gulf.

Privateer is a 52-foot sailing catamaran that Paradise Adventures calls its largest shared sunset boat, with room for up to 78 guests by the operator's count. Paradise Adventures says it started operations in February 2013, and this listing is Privateer's two-hour sunset sail out of Panama City Beach.

The deck has two front nets, shaded seating and two restrooms, and a full bar stays open for the whole trip. The operator pitches it to vacation groups, reunions, wedding parties and birthdays. Expect a lively boat; couples hoping for a quiet deck may find it busy.

One option is on sale: the shared two-hour sail. Children 3 to 12 and infants under 3 each book as their own ticket type, and infants are not free. One booking takes up to 15 travelers.

A Start Time That Follows the Season

The booking calendar shows one sailing per date, and the hour shifts across the year. As of October 15, 2026 it lists 4:30 PM through the end of October, 3:30 PM in November, and 3:15 PM from November 30 through January. The time moves later again through spring and sits at 6:00 PM from late April to mid-August. Read the time on the date you pick.

Arrive 40 minutes ahead; the listing and the operator's confirmation both say so, and the operator's own site says 45. Check-in closes 10 minutes before departure, and the boat does not wait. Late arrivals can lose their seats to the waiting list, and two travelers who were running a few minutes behind in 2025 and 2026 wrote that they were turned away.

📍 The dock is behind the resort at 4114 Jan Cooley Drive. Park at the resort, walk around the right side to the Paradise Adventures kiosk, then allow 5 to 7 minutes on foot down the dock. The resort now goes by Bayside Resort, a Hilton Vacation Club; the listing calls it The Bayside Resort, and the operator's confirmation still says Bluegreen Bayside Resort & Spa. If you sailed with Paradise Adventures in earlier years, its FAQ notes that its location may have moved since then. The confirmation also asks everyone in the party to sign the online waiver before arrival.

Through the Bay and Toward the Gulf

The operator describes the route as a cruise through St. Andrews Bay and toward the Gulf of Mexico. The listing adds that the tours operate in the bay, where conditions are often calmer than the Gulf. According to the listing, red flags on the beach do not affect these tours. Weather on the water still can: if the operator cancels for weather, the listing promises notice beforehand and a choice of another date or a full refund. Reviewers describe the crew raising the sails along the way, though one traveler in March 2026 noted there was not much wind to fill them.

Dolphins are a likely sight rather than a sure one. The operator says its sunset tours watch for them especially near Shell Island and the surrounding waters, and that sightings are never guaranteed. The listing asks guests to keep a lookout and notes the animals seem more active in the later afternoon. Traveler reviews describe sightings far more often than misses, though one 2024 reviewer saw none. The same March 2026 traveler found the dolphin watching concentrated around the end of the jetty, with other boats nearby.

One Drink In, Cards Only at the Bar

The one included drink comes first. After that the full bar sells beer, wine, sangria, seltzers, frozen drinks and cocktails, including the house Privateer Punch, along with sodas, juice, water and light snacks. The bar takes debit and credit cards only. Snacks are allowed in a small personal cooler, outside drinks are not, and the minimum drinking age is 21.

Gratuity is not included. The operator suggests bringing cash for the crew and calls 18 to 20 percent customary; for parties of 20 or more it adds a 20 percent gratuity automatically. Live music comes on selected evenings without the listing naming which, so treat a musician as a bonus.

Dock Steps, Front Nets and an Evening Chill

Boarding means a 5 to 7 minute walk down the dock and two or three steps onto the boat. The listing says portions of the trip are not wheelchair accessible, and that a collapsible wheelchair can come along if its user can board on their own or with help from their party. The operator's own FAQ says its vessels are not handicap accessible, and it asks guests with mobility needs to get in touch before the trip. The booking form has a field for special requirements.

Dress is casual, with no high heels. The operator asks for non-aerosol mineral sunscreen and no suntan oils. From late fall into early spring, reviewers keep warning that it turns cold on the water once the sun drops, even when the shore felt warm. A jacket or blanket earns its place. All ages sail, and families share the deck with couples and groups.

Book the date, note that day's start time, and give yourself the 40 minutes. The rest is two hours of bay, sky and whatever surfaces beside the hulls.
