Description

Covering 40 acres above the San Diego River valley, the park marks where European colonization of California began in 1769 with the founding of the San Diego Presidio and Mission San Diego de Alcalá. Alongside the Spanish Revival-style Junípero Serra Museum, rolling lawns and scenic walking paths weave through the grounds, where broad panoramic vistas make the open green spaces a popular draw for picnics, photography, and relaxing outdoors.
