Arlington’s first presidential gravesite honors the only person to serve as both U.S. president and chief justice.
Description

Located in Section 30, the plot marks one of only two presidential resting places at Arlington National Cemetery. The memorial features a 14-foot monument commissioned by Taft’s widow and designed by sculptor James Earle Fraser, carved from dark mahogany granite from Stony Creek, Connecticut. Taft's public service spanned his term as the 27th U.S. president from 1909 to 1913 and his tenure as chief justice from 1921 to 1930.
