Pour a Maui Shoreline Across Your Own Charcuterie Board

A small resin class in Pāʻia: pour ocean waves across a wooden board, then collect it once it cures.

Pour your own Maui shoreline charcuterie board.

Dara Miller owns Kai Luna Creations and teaches its ocean resin classes in the town of Pāʻia. In about an hour and a half to two hours, a small group pours a stretch of ocean across a wooden serving board, finishing with white resin laced over blue so it reads as surf running up sand.

No art experience is needed: the studio says it guides every step, and travelers describe each one being demonstrated before they try it. Travelers also describe the workspace as open-air and covered, set in a garden.

Start times on the listing are 10:00 AM, 1:00 PM or 4:00 PM, depending on the date, and one booking covers up to eight people. Board, resin, tools, gloves and apron are included.

Pick Acacia or Bamboo, Then Pour

Everyone starts by choosing a base: an acacia serving board with a handle, or a rectangular bamboo board. Surfboard and turtle shapes are upgrades at extra cost.

Several travelers describe warming up on a small practice board first, and at least two say that piece goes home with you as well. From there the studio's steps are taping and leveling the board, measuring and pouring the resin, blending colors, then marbling and lacing white over blue for the waves. Sand, shells and crushed glass are on the table, and you can bring a shell or trinket of your own to set into it.

The Board Stays Behind for a Day

Resin needs time to set. The listing and the studio's FAQ both say the board is ready 24 hours after class, while the studio's class page puts it at 18 to 24 hours. After that it is cleaned, oiled and packed to travel in a suitcase.

Collecting the board means a second visit to Pāʻia, arranged with the instructor. Booking on your last full day on Maui leaves no room for it. One traveler wrote in March 2026 that their piece was not ready the next day and they ended up paying for shipping.

The studio's FAQ lists shipping at USD 25 per item to the continental US, and delivery at USD 25 to Kīhei and Wailea resorts or the airport area, or USD 40 to Kāʻanapali and Lahaina, charged per group, per location. Once cured, the studio says the board is food safe, and it recommends hand washing only, with mineral oil to keep the wood.

Ages Ten and Up, Nine to a Class

The listing sells child tickets from age eight, but the studio's own FAQ says the class suits ages 10 and up and is not suitable for children under 10. Go by the studio's number when booking for a family. The listing advises against it during pregnancy, and the studio says it is not suitable for pregnant women.

The studio's FAQ and class page cap a class at nine people, and one booking here takes up to eight. The listing also ticks stroller access, nearby public transport, any fitness level and service animals. None of those appear on the studio's own site, and a stroller line sits oddly beside a ten-year minimum. Treat them as unconfirmed and check with the studio first.

Arrive Early, and Skip the Driveway

Google Maps leads to a driveway; the listing asks you to park at the corner of Baldwin Avenue and Anohou Street instead, in front of the green and white house with the sign. One traveler found street parking easy once they ignored the GPS. The studio asks guests to arrive 15 minutes early for check-in and board selection.

Gloves and aprons are supplied, but the studio still asks for clothes you would not mind getting resin on, long hair tied back, and reading glasses for close work. Non-alcoholic island drinks, infused water, snacks and fresh fruit are provided, and guests may bring their own alcohol.
