Description

Built on Grand Avenue by Dr. Harry Garritson Plymire for his practice and home, the building became the first hospital between San Francisco and San Mateo in 1913. Following decades that included a turn as a boarding house, prolific amateur painter Ernst Schwarz purchased the property in 1958, eventually bequeathing it to the Historical Society of South San Francisco.

Its preserved interiors showcase domestic and civic history through a restored 1915 Cribben-Sexton stove, a 1923 Victrola, an archive of local newspapers, and rotating displays of Schwarz's own artwork.
