Description

The plot of land has a long administrative history, starting in 1925 when the City of New York acquired it and transferred it to the Department of Transportation during a Sixth Avenue renovation. Jurisdictional control moved to NYC Parks in May 1934. For over sixty years, the space remained unnamed, receiving the title Houston Plaza in February 1998 before officially becoming the Playground of the Americas in 2000.
