Play Sheriff From Houston's Chase Tower to Market Square
A lockbox, a sheriff's badge and real clues hidden around downtown Houston, solved at your own pace with as many hints as you need.
Escapely's Houston box makes you the new sheriff of Magnolia City, a historic nickname for Houston from its eastern magnolia groves, sent to bring in an outlaw called Magnolia Mae. Inside are a lockbox with a real lock, clue envelopes that stay locked until the story says otherwise, a sheriff badge, metal coins and a pen.
The puzzles in the box only open up once you find their matching clues on the streets of downtown. QR codes load a web app in your phone's browser with nothing to install. Type in an answer and the app tells you where to walk next. It hands out hints in small nudges, as many as you ask for.

This listing sells one box per booking, USD 75 when checked in October 2026, and one box covers a group of up to six. Escapely suggests two to six players so everyone gets a look at the clues. It also says one person can play alone.
Outdoor Escape Room in Houston - DowntownA self-guided clue hunt around downtown Houston with a lockbox and app hints. One box for up to six players, about two hours.www.viator.comThe Hunt Opens at Chase Tower's Miró Plaza

The booking sends you to 600 Travis Street, at the JPMorgan Chase Tower, to scan the QR code on the box and begin. Escapely lists its Houston stops on its own page under a spoiler warning; here is only the outline.
Joan Miró's painted bronze and steel sculpture Personage and Birds, on the tower's plaza, is among the first clues. Escapely says one clue sits indoors in a public building space, and another is inside a business. You just step in to find it, with no purchase required.
It Ends Where Houston Built Its First City Hall

The hunt finishes at Market Square Park, open daily from 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM. Downtown Houston records the block as the site of four City Hall buildings before it became a neighborhood green space in the 1970s.
Escapely closes the Magnolia Mae story there, on the site of the original City Hall, a fitting last stop for a sheriff. On the way, the route takes you along Main Street, which Escapely calls the center of downtown, lined with shops, bars and restaurants. Escapely puts the whole walk at less than a mile. It encourages stopping to eat or drink, and no stop on the route charges entry.
Book a Week Out, or Collect the Box in Town
How the box reaches you depends on when you book. Book seven or more days before you play and Escapely contacts you to arrange shipping. Book inside a week and the box is set up for local pickup in Houston. After checkout, watch for Escapely's email. For pickup, it asks which day suits you and then sends the details.
You need the physical box and its contents to play. The app on its own will not get you through. The sale is final once you buy, with no refund for a cancellation.
Start After 10:45 AM, Then Take Your Time
Escapely's Houston page asks you not to start before 10:45 AM, when all clues along the route are open. It also recommends daylight for safety and clear clue visibility. Scanning the QR code on the outside of the box brings up the exact time windows for this game.
Nothing times you out. You can stop at any point and pick up later where you left off, and taking a hint costs nothing.
On access, the Viator listing marks every area and surface as wheelchair and stroller accessible, while Escapely's Houston page does not detail step-free routing. For any stop a player cannot reach in person, the web app's "This location is inaccessible" hint provides photos of the real-world clue.
📍 Escapely suggests parking in a lot near the JPMorgan Chase Tower, and METRORail runs right down Main Street. Plan on about two hours of play, or 1.5 to 3 by Escapely's count depending on how long you linger, and finish with the bars and restaurants around Market Square a few steps away.
