Picnic Under the Skyline Before the Lawn Closes

Reading outdoors leaves room for solitude or company. For a more social outing, browse the dance program at Lincoln Center and arrange dinner with friends around the performance, allowing time to eat before taking your seats.

The Afternoon Deadline

Sheep Meadow gives an after-work picnic a firm cutoff at 7:00 PM. Its 15 acres lie in southern Central Park beneath the Midtown skyline. Bring a book or food to share on the soft grass. The meadow is an official quiet zone. Seasonal access runs from May through mid-October, weather permitting. The lawn opens daily at 11:00 AM. Winter closure allows the turf to recover. Keep conversation low while you settle in.

Built for Movement

Philip Johnson designed this venue specifically for dance, and New York City Ballet is its resident company. Attendees report unobstructed views of the stage from the mezzanine and third balcony. Compare those levels with the selected performance before buying tickets. Prices and patron discounts vary by production and residency. Student, Under 40, and multi-program offers may apply to some programs. Check the current ticket terms for the performance you plan to see.
