Parliament of NSW
4.6 (273)attraction
Australia’s oldest parliament occupies a historic Macquarie Street core that began as an 1816 rum hospital wing.
Description

As a partly elected council expanded in the 1840s, former hospital accommodation gained a larger chamber, while bicameral government in 1856 added a prefabricated iron upper chamber bought from Melbourne. Modern accommodation later rose behind the retained frontage. Visitors explore the site through informative guided tours providing insight into state parliamentary workings, and can follow up with a meal in the dining room at Strangers Restaurant.
