Description

Located where South Torrence Avenue meets the river in South Deering, the grounds center on a Side-stream Elevated Pool Aeration system. Vertical propeller pumps circulate water through the elevated pools to sustain dissolved oxygen concentrations along the Calumet River-Main Channel waterway. Since 2018, the Chicago Park District has managed the surrounding parcel under a lease with the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, overseeing ecological restoration of the land around the pool.
