These windswept summits pair sweeping Bay Area vistas with a rare hillside haven for endangered butterflies.
Description

Rising 922 feet as the city's second-highest point, these two summits anchor a 64-acre park that reveals how San Francisco looked before grazing and development took over. While most visitors stay near the north peak parking lot for the panoramic turnaround, unpaved trails cut directly into a rugged stretch of coastal scrub and grassland. Hiking among the coyote brush, lizard tail, and lupine puts you alongside brush rabbits, coyotes, and white-crowned sparrows, where the resident butterflies skim low to the ground to dodge the fierce summit winds.
