Pajammy Jam Turns Cal Academy Into an Adults-Only Museum Party
The Academy opens late on November 12 with bars in the aquarium, a rainforest dome, and a 21+ crowd among the exhibits.
🎉 The Night Itself
🍸 Bars on Two Floors
NightLife is the Academy's adults-only Thursday program, and the November 12 night is billed as the mother of house parties, moved indoors among the exhibits. Hop into an inflatable bounce house, adopt a plushie at the Build-A-Bear station (first 100 guests, first-come, first-served), and treat yourself at The Noelja K-beauty bar. Guests roam the halls with a drink in hand, though drinks stay out of the rainforest, the planetarium, and the Swamp. Bars sit on the main floor near the Piazza and next to the Swamp, with another downstairs in the aquarium.
🐠 What Stays Open Late
The Osher Rainforest is the one to do first, since it closes at 7:45 p.m. and takes its last guests at 7:30. Almost everything else open during the day is open at night. Morrison Planetarium shows run at 6:30, 7:30, 8:30, and 9:30 p.m., and passes cost $7 on top of admission. Passes must be purchased online in advance and quantities are limited, with no guarantee of tickets at the door. Food comes from Off The Grid creators in the East Garden and from the Academy Café, and the Shake House stays closed all night.
🎟️ Entry, Price, and Getting There
Admission is $26, and the building stops letting people in at 9 p.m., so arriving near 6 leaves most of the night. Entry is 21+ with valid, physical photo ID, and three or more tickets take 10 percent off. The 44 bus stops at the front door, and the N Judah leaves a ten minute walk from 9th and Irving. The Music Concourse Garage sits steps away but lists 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. hours, so free street parking on MLK Drive suits a late exit better. Golden Gate Park is dark at night, so be prepared to walk.
