Paddle Manatee Water in the Refuge Just North of NASA
A guided 90-minute tandem kayak paddle on Haulover Canal, with the guide steering toward wherever manatees and dolphins are that day.
Haulover Canal runs through Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge between the Indian River Lagoon and Mosquito Lagoon. This tour puts you on it for 90 minutes in a two-person tandem kayak, behind a guide who chooses the route by where the animals have been turning up. Manatees and bottlenose dolphins are the draw, and the operator's own page concedes that manatees can be elusive. When they are around, the listing describes them as curious enough to come up to a kayak for a closer look.

The booking covers the kayak, paddle, life jacket, launch fee and guide. Tips are extra. Free cancellation runs until 24 hours before the start, and departures leave daily on the hour from 8:00 AM to noon.
Manatee and Dolphin Kayaking | Wildlife Refuge (Titusville)Guided 90-minute tandem kayak tour on Haulover Canal in Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, looking for manatees and dolphins. Ages 5 and up.www.viator.comThe Meeting Point Is a Truck at the End of a Dirt Road

There is no building at the launch. The operator's directions place it on the northwest corner of Haulover Canal, about 20 minutes east of Titusville and roughly ten minutes north of NASA. Coming from Titusville, cross the Max Brewer Causeway into the refuge, follow the road toward Black Point Wildlife Drive without turning onto the drive itself, go left on Kennedy Parkway to the Haulover Canal bridge, cross it, and take the first left down an unmarked road that turns to dirt. At the end, look for a green Ford pickup or a white van hauling a kayak trailer, with a Florida-Adventurer sandwich board. The listing tells iPhone users to navigate with the Google Maps app and warns that Apple Maps will get them lost. The operator also asks guests to use a restroom in town before driving into the refuge and to allow for traffic.
What Shows Up, and When Manatees Are Likeliest

Beyond manatees and dolphins, the operator lists birds, fish, stingrays, horseshoe crabs and jellyfish among the wildlife it sees on this tour, with an alligator possible. It points to a structure its guides call the box, which it says gives manatees warmth and fresh drinking water in winter and a resting spot out of the canal's current the rest of the year. The operator's own tip is that November through March, plus early summer mornings and late afternoons, are prime time for manatee sightings. As of October 28, 2026, the booking calendar adds a 4:00 PM departure in May and 5:00 PM and 5:30 PM departures from June through August.
Thirty Minutes Early, Ages Five and Up
Plan to reach the launch 30 minutes before the booked time. Check-in comes first, and the orientation on steering the kayak starts 15 minutes before launch. Miss the orientation and you miss the tour, and the listing says there is no refund or raincheck for that. Children under 5 are not admitted; the operator calls it an insurance rule it enforces strictly and asks parents to book only children who can sit through 90 minutes. A tandem seats two adults, or two adults and a small child. The listing rates the paddle suitable for all fitness levels but not for travelers with spinal injuries or poor cardiovascular health. It also marks the tour wheelchair accessible, while the operator's FAQ and booking notes say nothing about access at a launch with no building. On its own site the operator books at most ten boats at a time and sets a two-person minimum to open a departure; this listing accepts a booking from one traveler and does not cancel for low numbers.
Pack for Mosquitoes, Splashes and Sun
The operator's packing list is short: sunscreen, bug spray, a towel, a water bottle and cash to tip the guides. Wear quick-dry clothes and water shoes. Expect to get a little wet, and the operator notes that the salt water can ruin leather shoes. Bug spray is the item not to skip: the operator says Mosquito Lagoon is aptly named, and its booking notes mention light long sleeves and pants when the wind is calm. It runs a no alcohol or drugs policy, and a guest judged unfit to paddle is turned away without a refund. Rain alone rarely stops a tour, according to its FAQ, and for lightning or high wind it moves guests to the next available tour.
📍 The pin marks the Haulover Canal kayak launch where the tour meets. Cancel at least 24 hours ahead for a full refund. After the orientation, the group pushes off into the canal and the guide sets the course.
