Pack a Cooler and Go Looking for Clearwater's Dolphins

A family-friendly boat ride on the water around Clearwater Beach, where dolphins are the point and your own snacks are welcome aboard.

Pack a cooler for a Clearwater dolphin cruise.

Flippers Fun Boat runs a roofed pontoon out of Clearwater Beach Marina for 90 to 105 minutes at a time, with bench seats around tables, a small restroom, and coolers with ice. The reason to go is dolphins, though the odds depend on who is describing the trip. The booking listing calls sightings guaranteed. The operator's own site says it almost always sees them, and a few travelers in 2025 and 2026 came back without a sighting.

Far more describe pods with calves swimming alongside the boat, and dolphins jumping in the wake of passing boats.

The listing sells one trip, priced per person, with adult, child, and lap-infant bands.

Where the Boat Goes Depends on the Water

The listing names no route beyond Clearwater Beach, so the clearest picture comes from travelers. They describe time in the harbor behind the beach, a run past waterfront homes with narration from the crew, and on calmer days a stretch out on the Gulf of Mexico.

On a choppy afternoon one family noted the boat did not go out far, and a 2025 rider on the 3:00 PM trip never reached the Gulf and saw no dolphins. Several riders also say the tour boats tell one another when and where dolphins have been spotted.

The Last Departure Is Set Around Sunset

The booking calendar lists four departures a day: late morning, early afternoon, mid-afternoon, and a last one set around sunset. That last slot moves with the season; checked in October 2026, it showed 5:45 PM for October and 4:45 PM through November and December.

The operator's own schedule calls its evening runs sunset tours, and one rider describes the boat holding out on the Gulf for about twenty minutes while the sun went down. Several reviews posted in December and January say it gets cold on the water and suggest packing a jacket.

What to Bring Aboard

Bring sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses. Your own food and drinks are welcome, with coolers and ice on board.

Ages, Accessibility, and Cancellations

The listing sets adult rates from age 12, child rates for ages 3 to 11, and an infant band under 3 for babies who sit on a lap. It also ticks stroller access and says the trip suits all fitness levels. The operator's FAQ asks guests with accessibility needs to contact it in advance, and recent riders split: one 2026 reviewer called the boat not walker or wheelchair friendly, while another praised the crew for accommodating a wheelchair passenger.

Through this booking, a full refund needs at least 24 hours' notice; the operator's site lists a stricter 48-hour rule for its direct bookings. If the crew calls a trip off for weather, the operator says guests get a rain check or a full refund.

📍 The marina is at 25 Causeway Blvd on Clearwater Beach. Walk to the east corner of the Marina Cantina building and look for the Flippers Fun Boat sign at slip 47. The city has been rebuilding the marina's docks in phases, and a November 2025 local news report said east-side tenants would move temporarily during the next phase. A rider during the December 2025 work said the operator's messages made it clear where to go; if they point somewhere other than slip 47, follow them.

The city lot there charges USD 3.50 an hour with a two-hour limit, and a 105-minute trip plus boarding can run past it. Get the day's parking code from the operator: the city then charges USD 1 an hour and adds two more hours. Several 2026 riders say parking details and the code were sent to them ahead of the trip, and the operator's FAQ also gives the code out at booth 47 or over the phone. Its booking page asks guests to arrive an hour before departure because the lot fills fast. The beach lot across the street and a few garages nearby are the backup.

The boat leaves on schedule, so give yourself time to park, then take a table under the roof before it pulls away.
