Description

Just south of Oakland International Airport, this park under development balances open space with active wildlife habitat. Marsh hawks, red-tailed hawks, and black-shouldered kites hunt over the grounds alongside flocks of shorebirds. Interior trails lead inland to Roger Berry’s sculpture ‘Rising Wave’, while a quarter-acre garden with 300 plants supports overwintering monarch butterflies. With seven non-reservable group picnic areas and dog-friendly walking paths, it also remains a notably peaceful spot to watch the sunset without fighting crowds.
