Outside Savannah's 1821 City Hotel, a Ghost Walk Begins

An evening walk through downtown Savannah's squares that pairs ghost stories with the history of the buildings behind them.

Start a Savannah ghost walk at the City Hotel.

Savannah Supernatural Tours sells one public walk here: 90 minutes through the downtown Historic District, leaving at 7:00 PM. The operator pitches it as ghost lore and history together, and says plainly that this 7 PM walk is not a pub crawl.

The listing names Jodie as your guide, and most travelers' accounts name him too, though a September 2026 review describes a different guide who said he had not led the tour in a while. The operator says Jodie started the company after years of leading tours downtown. A recurring note in reviews is the photos he shows from earlier tours.

The booking covers an English-speaking guide and the walk itself. Tickets are priced by age on this listing: adults pay USD 20, seniors USD 15, ages 3 to 17 USD 10, and the youngest band, ages 1 and 2, is free. Every booking needs an adult.

Johnson Square, Juliette Low's Birthplace and the Marshall House

The listing's itinerary opens with ten minutes at the start building and ten more at Johnson Square and some of the squares around it. On its own site, the operator also names Juliette Gordon Low's birthplace and the Marshall House hotel among its stops.

The Marshall House story is told from the street; a 2023 traveler wished the group could have gone inside. Favorites travelers recall from this stretch include a love story about Juliette Low's parents told at her birthplace, and the tale of little Gracie Watson in Johnson Square. The listing records a different end point from the start, and two travelers, in 2019 and 2023, placed the finish on Broughton Street.

Colonial Park Cemetery, Taken in Passing

Colonial Park Cemetery appears on both the listing and the operator's list of stops, and the listing marks it as a pass-by with no stop of its own. The listing calls it Savannah's oldest surviving formal burial area.

Plan on it as part of the route, with no time set aside to wander among the graves. Travelers still carry its stories home. In 2024 one named Union soldiers changing the dates on tombstones as a favorite, and in 2026 another singled out a mystery about a graffitied gravestone.

The Brewery at the Start Closed in 2024

The listing still says the tour begins directly in front of Moon River Brewing Company. That brewery closed permanently on June 16, 2024; navigate by the address, 21 West Bay Street. The building is far older than the beer. A January 2025 staff report for Savannah's Historic District Board of Review dates it to 1821, when it was built as the City Hotel, and says it served as a hotel until 1864. The same report recommended approving a rehab for a new ground-floor restaurant tenant and apartments upstairs, and the front may no longer match older photos of the brewery.

Tours have kept meeting on that sidewalk since the closure. A traveler in February 2026 found the meeting point easy to find, while one in October 2024 felt the start lost something with the building shut.

Thursday to Sunday at 7:00 PM, and How Hard the Walk Is

The calendar on this listing runs Thursday to Sunday only, with one 7:00 PM departure. It currently takes bookings through December 31, 2026, with Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day closed, and dates in 2027 show as not operating. Arrive 10 to 15 minutes early to check in with your guide.

  • Pace: the listing calls it suitable for all fitness levels, and travelers in 2026 described an easy walk with frequent stops. The same listing says it is not recommended for travelers with poor cardiovascular health.
  • Strollers and service animals: the listing ticks both as allowed. The operator's website and booking page say nothing on either, beyond calling the walk all ages.
  • Kids: one August 2026 family said the stories held the adults' interest without scaring their children, aged 10 and 8.
  • Parking: downtown parking is the friction point; a June 2026 guest arrived late because of it.
  • Heat: summer evenings run hot, and one July 2026 guest ended up the only person on a hot night's tour.

Meet in front of 21 West Bay Street, on the south side of Bay Street between Bull and Whitaker streets, 10 to 15 minutes before 7:00 PM. Cancel at least 24 hours ahead for a full refund; inside 24 hours nothing comes back, and the listing lets the operator call off a departure for bad weather. Then follow the guide into the squares as the evening comes on.
