🖌️ Ink on the Walls

The Society of Illustrators hangs original comic strips, magazine covers, and cartoon pages frame to frame inside a townhouse on East 63rd Street. The main gallery runs long and bright, framed work lining white walls and exposed brick, wood floors underfoot, and small cafe tables where you can sit with a sketchbook.

Upstairs, a paneled wood bar anchors the room, its back counter stacked with bottles beneath a large painted mural, glasses hanging overhead. The bar stays open to gallery visitors during exhibition hours, which stretches a quick art stop into a slow afternoon. Exhibitions rotate through comics, editorial illustration, and student portfolios, and the walls change often.

Reviewers rate it 3.5 across 39 visits. It sits between Park and Lexington on the Upper East Side, a short walk from the Q train, and fits an unhurried, art forward hour.
