Old Town Scottsdale and Its Waterfront by Segway at Sunset

A two-hour guided Segway loop through Old Town Scottsdale and the canal waterfront, sold as a sunset-into-city-lights ride.

This guided Segway ride checks in at the operator's office on East Main Street, near Hotel Valley Ho, and runs two hours through Old Town Scottsdale, the Civic Center and the canal waterfront. The operator sells it as a sunset ride that turns into a city-lights ride. There is one departure a day, and its start time moves with the season: 5:00 PM through the end of October, 4:30 PM in November and the first half of January, then later each month until it reaches 6:45 PM in June and July.

The operator puts the loop at about seven miles with more than 30 points of interest. Stops named on the listing include the Civic Center, the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, the Old Adobe Mission, the Rusty Spur Saloon, the Soleri Bridge, the Southbridge and the Western Spirit museum, which the listing says you see from outside.

The listing sells up to twelve seats on a departure, while the operator's own FAQ says its tours top out at 16 riders, with most groups at 8 to 10. Bottled water and the Segway are included. Tips are not, and the operator calls 18 to 20 percent customary.

Cancel at least 24 hours ahead for a full refund on this listing; the operator's own direct-booking terms are non-refundable with free rescheduling, and those are not the terms that apply here. Online booking closes four hours before the start.

Daylight at the Start, City Lights by the End

The operator's booking page describes watching the sky change color as the sun goes down, then the city lights coming on. One rider who went from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM put it simply: "It was also unique to do it from 6PM to 8PM to experience Scottsdale both in the light and the dark."

There is no restroom at the starting point. The operator's FAQ promises a restroom stop about 30 minutes into the ride, and the listing marks a ten-minute break at Hotel Valley Ho for stretching and the restroom. The listing also gives five minutes at the Southbridge for water and mountain views, and the operator promises plenty of photo stops along the way.

In December It Becomes a Holiday Lights Ride

Book this listing for a date between late November and December 31 and you get its Holiday Lights option instead, leaving at 4:30 PM daily. It is timed for Scottsdazzle, the city's month-long holiday celebration in Old Town, which puts an illuminated Christmas tree at the Scottsdale Waterfront. The operator says riders see a professionally designed holiday light show spanning nearly a mile, and that its Segways are wrapped in lights for the season and fitted with bright headlights. It also encourages ugly sweaters.

The December option is priced higher than the regular sunset ride. As of October 13, 2026, the calendar showed it running every day from November 29 to December 31, with December 12 already sold out.

A Parking-Lot Lesson Before Anyone Rolls Out

Every rider does a 15 to 25 minute orientation in a large, controlled parking lot before the tour moves. The guide demonstrates how to ride and how to make an emergency stop, then works with each rider individually, and the tour does not leave until everyone is comfortable on the Segway. Leaning forward moves you ahead; leaning back slows and stops you.

Helmets are required and supplied free. Each rider gets a headset to hear the guide while moving. Segways top out at 12 mph, and the operator says it starts slower and only picks up speed as the group gains confidence. A small handlebar bag holds a phone, wallet or medication, so leave purses and backpacks at home or locked in the car.

Who the Operator Will Put on a Segway

Viator accepts bookings for ages 12 to 90, but the operator's FAQ is narrower for Segways: riders must weigh at least 75 lbs, and the maximum age for Segway tours is 75. Check both before booking for an older or lighter rider. Closed-toe, flat shoes are required. Flip-flops, sandals, heels, wedges and platforms are not allowed, and anyone without suitable shoes cannot ride.

The listing does not recommend the ride during pregnancy or for anyone with spinal injuries or poor cardiovascular health, and it asks for at least moderate fitness. The operator refuses service to anyone it suspects is under the influence of alcohol or of medication that warns against operating equipment. June and July departures leave at 6:45 PM, and riders writing in June and July 2025 describe serious heat; the operator brings cold water and mister fans and urges drinking plenty the night before and that morning.

📍 Check in at the operator's office, 6803 E Main St, Suite 1120, at The Mark. Park at the roundabout marked The Mark Guest parking and pick up a pass inside, use the Hotel Valley Ho valet for fifteen dollars, or look for free street parking along N 69th St. Arrive 10 to 15 minutes early, and eat beforehand, since no food is provided.

The operator rarely cancels for weather and hands out ponchos in light rain. In bad weather it can move the start by up to three hours either way, and a weather cancellation on this listing comes with a new date or a full refund. Sunglasses help at the start, and the operator suggests a light jacket for the way back.
