Off M Street and Past Julia Child's House, Tasting Georgetown

A Georgetown food walk that starts at Rose Park, leaves M Street for side streets, and stops at a deli and a bakery.

Mangia DC Food Tours runs this Georgetown walk on Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons. The booking page sets it at about 1.5 miles at a comfortable pace, with a stop roughly every 20 minutes and the guide talking about the neighborhood between bites.

It starts at the edge of Rose Park, and the guide's stories about Georgetown's houses and old trades fill the walks between tastings.

As of October 18, 2026, the booking calendar shows 1:00 PM departures on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through November 15, and none in December on either the listing or the operator's own calendar. One booking takes up to eight travelers, and cancelling at least 24 hours before departure brings a full refund.

A Deli, a Bakery and the Stops in Between

The listing promises a local deli and a military-focused American bakery, and says the other establishments can change. Travelers between 2023 and 2026 describe four stops, the low end of the four to five the listing sells. Accounts from 2025 and 2026 run in a similar order: an Ethiopian plate of vegetarian dishes with injera and a drink, a deli's pastrami-filled pastry with a taste of sausage, vegetarian tacos, then a blondie at the bakery.

Portions split the room. Several reviewers walk away full, while a few between 2023 and 2026 found the later stops thin, including a packaged blondie served with coffee or tea at the end. Some stops seat the group and others serve it standing, and one 2026 traveler ate the deli tasting on chairs by the curb.

Side Streets, Old Houses and a Gentle Pace

The operator describes the route leaving the main shopping stretch of M Street for residential side streets. The listing names the talking points as the town's flour mills, its meat-packing district and the C&O Canal, up to a former home of Julia Child, and the operator adds the old homes of the Kennedys. These are places the group passes on foot, with no entry included.

On effort, the sources pull in different directions. The listing ticks wheelchair accessible and suitable for all fitness levels, and in the same block says the tour is not for travelers who have issues walking. The operator's FAQ calls the route over a mile at an easy pace, with at least two sit-down stops, and says nothing about wheelchairs. Reviewers describe guides adjusting for a wheelchair user in 2023 and for group members with knee or mobility trouble in 2024 and 2025.

Diet, the Drink and the Age Floor

The operator's FAQ offers substitutions for vegetarians and gluten-free diners and says it cannot substitute for any other allergy or preference. Requests go in at the time of booking, and the listing points to the Special Requirements field at checkout. Reviews from 2024 and 2026 describe vegetarian and gluten-free guests being given options along the route.

The one pairing comes in alcoholic and non-alcoholic versions, and anyone drinking needs to be 21 with a valid photo ID. The booking page sells a single ticket type, for ages 14 to 90, while the operator's own booking system lists the tour as all ages. Families booking through this page should plan around that floor.

Rain, Group Size and the Guide's Tip

The listing says the tour operates in all weather, and the operator's booking notes say it runs rain or shine. Travelers in 2023 and 2024 describe walking it in the rain. On the booking side, a departure called off for poor weather or for too few travelers is offered another date or a full refund.

The booking page caps a shared departure at eight travelers. Guide gratuities are not included, and the operator's booking notes suggest 18 to 20 percent of the ticket price. The listing still carries a line asking for proof of COVID-19 vaccination; the operator's tour page and booking notes do not mention one.

📍 The group meets at the M Street NW entrance to Rose Park, across M Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW from the Four Seasons Hotel, and the nearest corner is M and 28th Streets NW. For navigation the operator gives 1130 Rock Creek Trail, Washington, DC 20007, and says the park entrance is a few steps to the right when facing the buildings along M Street. Look for a guide in a bright blue Mangia DC shirt.

The operator asks for arrival at least 15 minutes early and starts on time. Foggy Bottom-GWU Metro, on the Blue, Orange and Silver lines, is about half a mile away, roughly a 15-minute walk, and a Capital Bikeshare dock at M Street and Pennsylvania Avenue sits next to the start. Street parking is scarce; the operator points to nearby garages, including the Four Seasons valet across the street, and to the public restrooms inside that hotel.

The walk usually ends near Wisconsin Avenue NW, south of M Street, and the operator says the guide will suggest where to go next in the neighborhood.
